Laurelhill Community College celebrates continued international football success. Laurelhill has a large representation of international football players. Principal, Mr J Martin, expressed his “delight” once again with the continued success of Laurelhill pupils on the sports field: “The coaching and support for pupils to excel in their chosen sport in Laurelhill is exceptional”.
Six students will play for Northern Ireland football this season. Year 13 students Ben Cushnie and Leighton Jameson will represent on the U18 football squad. Ben Cushnie has been selected for the U18 team and Leighton Jameson has been selected as a reserve for the U18 team. Ben and Leighton’s first match against is at home to Australia U18 on 22nd January 2019.
Year 13 students Jake Ross and Adam Wright, whose international success we reported during 2018, have been selected once again to play for the U19 MLD team. They will play in the Home Nations Cup at Easter in Wales.
International representation continues with our girls as Year 11 student Ellie Tennyson has been selected for the U17 girls’ team and Year 10 student Mia Rowan has been selected to play for the U14 girls’ team. Both commence an intense training schedule with their teams as they prepare for future fixtures.
Head of PE, Mr Watson, expressed his pride in the sporting talent of all our pupils at Laurelhill, especially our international footballers: “I am extremely pleased and proud of the success of our pupils. Currently we have four boys and two girls playing at international level in various age groups. This further enhances our credentials as an IFA Gold Award school and our excellence for Sport in the Lisburn area.”
