This year our Year 8 students participated in the very first ‘Integration Day’ at Laurelhill. The event is a new addition to our Transitions programme which is aimed at helping our Year 8 students transition smoothly from primary to secondary school life. The purpose of this new event is to encourage Year 8 to mix with other students in their year group who are not members of their form class. Students completed some challenging and fun activities, but in order to succeed the Year 8 students learned very quickly they had to communicate effectively.
Students participated in a range of activities such as wheelchair basketball and glow sports hosted by the Sports Council. Other activities from the day included blindfold Pictionary, food construction challenge and past pupil Simon Toole very kindly gave up his time to take some team building activities. As you can see from the images below, the students had a very different day compared to their usual timetabled classes.
Principal Mr Martin is delighted with the progress of our Year 8 students and their transition to secondary education at Laurelhill, ‘Our Year 8 pupils are settling into new routines so quickly and adapting to life in their new environment, I look forward to seeing their continued growth and development.’
