ACADEMIC INFORMATION

The Drama Department aims to help pupils understand that Drama is a powerful learning tool, many life skills can be learnt through working creatively with others towards a performance.

The Drama Department aims to inspire our pupils to build on their knowledge and acting experiences, equipping them with the skills necessary to succeed in future study and employment.

AIMS

  • The aims of the Drama Department are to encourage and develop creativity, sensitivity, self-esteem and confidence.
  • We aim to develop an understanding of values, understanding of cultural change, empathy and respect for each other.
  • We aim to develop the pupils’ knowledge and understanding of Drama forms and styles and provide opportunities to create performance work, collaborating with their peers.
  • We aim to develop communication skills and the appraisal skills of appreciation and evaluation.

  • Encourage professional artists to perform for and work with students and staff
  • Offer extensive extra- curricular activities such as the annual musical production, theatre visits and workshops.

Key Stage 3

TOPIC LIST

All Key Stage 3 classes will have 2-3 periods of Drama a week for ONE term in the school year.

BTEC Level 3 National Foundation Diploma in Performing Arts Practice (Acting)

There are two learning and teaching modules assessed through four assessment units, with each assessment unit attracting a grade. This Performing Arts course is equivalent to one A’ level. Learners will cover 4 units over 2 years and there is no written exam unit.
