AIMS

GCSE Digital Technology (CCEA)

This course is assessed through external examination and controlled assessment. These units equip students with the skills required within the IT industry.

OCN Level 2 – IT Applications

This course is assessed through continuous assessment of portfolio-based work. These units equip students with the skills required within the IT industry.  

This course requires 15 credits, achieved through the completion of a combination of different units, depending on the specialist route (IT in Business, Digital Design, IT Technical Services, Digital Marketing) that best suits the class. Selected from: 

Not all units will available every year. Three units at 4 credits will be chosen by the class teacher based on the aptitude of the class when doing the first 3 credit unit at the start of year 11.

Web Development with Digital Art and
Animation for Web based Advertising 

This course is assessed through continuous assessment of portfolio-based work. These units equip students with the skills required within the web design industry.  

Pupils will learn the legislative requirements when working in a web design studio and how to work safely on computers. 

Students will complete 12 practical Web Design and Web Animation assessments (each one worth 5% of the overall GCSE) and a range of knowledge tests, evaluations and diaries of learning activities over the two years.  

There is no external examination.

BTEC National Level 3 Extended Certificate
Information Technology

This course is assessed through external examination and controlled assessment. These units equip students with the skills required within the IT industry. This qualification is designed for learners who are interested in an introduction to the study of creating IT systems to manage and share information, alongside other fields of study, with a view to progressing to a wide range of higher education.  

This course is delivered as part of the Lisburn Area Learning Community: 

The Pearson BTEC Level 3 National Extended Certificate in Information Technology is intended as an Applied General qualification equivalent in size to one A level 

It makes up a third of a typical study programme and is normally taken alongside two other A level or level 3 qualifications.  Students wishing to take this qualification should have successfully completed a level 2 programme of learning; GCSE Digital Technology or an equivalent Level 2 IT vocational qualification.
